Guest Stacka
ok so iv been after this one fox now for about a month. He's a very big what I think is a dog, and probably a few seasons old. There is a small maybe 5 acre field of maize in the centre. on the southern side there is a deep wood on the northern side there is a freshly cut field with a small track separating the two, on the east there is the boundary and the west is another rough cut field. This fox has been seen on numerous occasions, always at the same time 10am and 8pm but he runs so fast from the southern side forest into the maize it's impossible to get a safe shot off. I caught him on the northern side one night when I had my lamp and the second the lamp was on he was gone. He won't come to the fox calls I have. I'm exhausted out of ideas, other than sitting with the night vision and hoping to catch up with him. Does any one have any sensible ideas? Guest Stacka
I'll try that bad boy, if not thought about baiting. What were you using as bait? There are a few dog walkers (all though they shouldn't be there) so we can't snare.
22cf
Get some cat food in a tray and leave it on the track that he runs along, I have not yet come across a fox that won't stop to eat catfood. When he stops, shoot him, I have had similar experiences to yourself with this fox and this technique has not failed for me yet.

Tony.H
If you have nv, then a bait pit, it ll hold him long enough, just get him coming in regular, and at the end of the week you should be able to sort him..

Rammer223
bait him ,you only need him to pause we use cheapo cat food or road kill etc and a little bresser trail cam then simply arrive an hour before time posted on camera and bingo well most of the time! Guest Stacka
Last night I booked onto the estate drove to my first stand and jumped out....laid my Foxpro about 70 yards out and started calling with my screaming rabbit call. I waited about 30mins with intermittent calling and nothing....starting to thing it was one of those nights again. I moved onto my next stand which is in the vicinity of this Ninja fox, picked the wind right and tried again, after about 5 mins of calling to my horror I could see the green light flashing on and off meaning the batteries were running out.....gutted. So I muted her and scan the ground....to my surprise Ninja fox was closing very very quickly.....then the wind quickly changed and I'm sure he got a hint of me. I quickly switched to a mouse distress and he again started bounding in.... .... Sat down switched from spotter to the Yukon Photon on my rifle, I could see him much better now and assed him to be at around 280 yards, by now I'm sure he sensed me but must have been too hungry to resist the chance...with a bit of playing with fox pro I brought him in to around 220-200 yards. Then the inevitable happen, the battery on the fox pro died!!! I switched to a more conventional squeak with my lips. He was interested but in could see he was tracking something with his nose....I switched the NM800 to full power and decided he was clear enough to take the shot. Cross hairs on..... ....I breathed and counted....."one for the queen, one for the country, and one for you".....bam the round was released and I watched the fox crumple instantly followed by a almighty thud, I'd never heard a thud that loud before. I waited a second the check he wasn't getting up and switched off the NV. I let out a breath for relief and made my way to him. He wasn't as old as I thought, but was big for his age.....and with a really nice red colour. What was obvious is that the 40gr Varmagedon totally destroyed him inside, so much so there is a obvious 3 exit wounds in the fleshy parts, nothing to obscene but I know he's dead. He was a good 190-200 yards, I'll,conform this morning. Goes to prove, I don't need big bucks for a good fox set up. Tikka T3 Lite .222 Yukon Photon Nm800 illuminator ASE Utra SL5 40gr Varmageddon home loads, using Ramshot X-terminator running at around 3350fps 1in hold over at 200 If it's allowed I'll post pictures of the said ninja and my set up (nothing gory, just the boy and the rifle)
