UKBRA 1000 Yard BR – 7th September 2014

Sunday saw the final date for the 2014 1000 yard benchrest league and for once we were treated to some proper sunshine at Diggle.

The wind was very light and we had some perfect conditions for 1000 yard shooting.

The first time this year we have all been able to truly see what our rifles will do and also for the Heavy Gun shooters to get to grips with 10 shot groups, which are rather tricky.

In Heavy Gun Steve Barrett managed to break a 10 year old record shooting a 7.507” 10 shot group, well done Steve.

Elsewhere we were all trying hard to beat records, with some amazing 4 shot groups, where the 5th shots just opened them up slightly in some cases, with several people shooting 4 shots within 2-3”.

It was also a good day for the small calibre gang, myself included, these 6BR’s seem to be breeding and not doing too badly at shooting small groups, I counted 8 people shooting a standard 6BR and most turned in 1 if not more sub 10” group each.

The small groups today were pretty small, Light Gun (Bruce Lenton) 4.227”, Factory (Nick Parkin) 6.012” and Heavy Gun (Steve Barrett) 7.507”

OK to the results, full results will follow later, but here are the top 3 for each class.

Light Gun

1. Bruce Lenton – 7.886” (Average of 4 x 5 shot groups)

2. Gary Wrighton – 8.214”

3. Graham Francis – 8.652”

Small Group – Bruce Lenton – 4.227”

Heavy Gun

1. Steve Barrett – 8.790” (Average of 2 x 10 shot groups)

2. Jonathan Walker – 10.136”

3. Jim Marsden – 11.380”

Small Group – Steve Barrett – 7.507” ***New British Record***

Factory Sporter

1. Stuart Benson – 9.266” (Average of 4 x 5 shot groups)

2. Dale Almond – 9.499”

3. Nick Parkin – 9.556”

Small Group – Nick Parkin – 6.012”

Full results can be seen in the link below

League results will follow, but despite some nasty weather this year we have all had a great time.

Hope to see you all soon for the 600 yard league which starts on Saturday 25th October.

Well done Bruce on two very successful days shooting at 100 and 1,000. It's good to see Diggle being 'friendly' for once and letting some really small groups come in. See you in the 600 yard matches.

Not in factory?? :mad::P:D:ph34r:

Yep. I've got a Savage. It's a proper benchrest one.......left port feed, right port eject. Had a problem with the load and blew a couple of primers using what was a proven load in it at the last 1000 yards shoot but I'll have it sorted for the start of the 600s ;-).

One can never have too many Savages.....!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing it on my next visit.

Cheers. Paul
