brown dog
Finally got sight of the fox that's taken to crapping all around my garden. Visiting earlier than I would have guessed. Grateful for thoughts on getting rid of it in an efficient manner.
Wiltshire Boy
I take it that you're not happy to shoot it in the open in the garden given the question, I assume either safety of the shot or noise, in which case I would suggest snaring would be the most efficient way to catch it then shoot it with a moderated small calibre rifle or fully modded shot gun. It's extremely likely that it is taking the same route in and out of the garden so that ought to be obvious, set a snare and you'll have him pronto, if you don't have a well used snare either borrow one or buy a new one and bury it for a few days then set it. If for whatever reason you can't or haven't the kit, pm me and I'll give you a hand, you're pretty close to me. Cheers Rich

Guest Stacka
We had exactly the same drama in our garden, shitting in the garden and eventually taking my wife's Guinea Pigs. And distressing the chickens all though never actually taking on them. Every morning I let the dogs out for the morning poo and they would run along the same track, sniffing frantically for the intruder. I tried setting out a snare a pal lent me, to no avail. One night I sat up and waited on a deck chair inside the double doors with a .22lr and watched him come in sniff around but wasn't close enough to take an effective shot. The next few days the process ran again and again still with no real effective shot available. Finally a gamekeeper pal of mine made me a feather ball, fashioned out of some pheasant feathers and fishing line stuck to a pole in the ground. It was light and blew around in the wind, and looked pretty appealing The final night he came marching in the garden and made a direct line towards he feather ball, only to get a 40grain eley sub between the ears. He was a well fed dog who must have been using my garden as a safe run out to the fields behind my home. The .22LR was silent, and with a downward shot was perfectly safe for no ricochet. However I know of a keeper who used a FAC rated, .25 air rifle to dispatch a similar Charlie terrorising his prized quail. However he'd sit in a garden shed/port drinking den and wait for Charlie. To summarise, .22LR or a big bore FAC air rifle. (I asked BASC about the legalities of this, and they said at close range this is acceptable)
brown dog
Thanks both - think I'd have family 'presentational problems' with a snare - he'd be shotgunnable if I get the background right - I'm wondering how to get him without sitting out all night, was thinking about alarmed bait; if he keeps coming at 2100-2130 the pheasant feathers thing sounds like it could be a goer. JDBenelliM1
I know someone who used his carp rod with bite alarm. tied the line to a cooked chicken then ran the line into his shed and had the rod and alarm setup infront of him while he read the paper, soon as charlie gave it a pull he was out the door with shotgun in hand

Guest Stacka
How about the a lead tube in 12 g, with a shot gun cartridge set up on a hammer. Soon as Charlie touches the line......boom! Not recommended for small children, local dogs, and the house cat. Lol

brown dog
Shoot the tw@t... Yup. I think the plan is: Establish fox's patrol pattern with camera. Buy carp alarm. Put out bait on carp alarm and sit out for appropriate time window.
Shuggy
I wonder if a moderated .410 shotgun would be up to the job? It strikes me that a headshot at close range with 3 inch cartridges and heavy shot would give a humane kill. I recently bought a Hushpower Baikal .410 and you'd be welcome to borrow it onto your SGC for the legal 72 hours.
brown dog
Thanks Shuggy, that's very kind and it'd do the job, but noise isn't an issue where I am; I think he'll get the 12b good news. I'm just trying to find a way to avoid sitting out all night.
Guest Stacka
What about a cheap PRI alarm system, rig the alarm module up to a long cable up into your bedroom. Now the drama will be persuading your lady that a loaded shotgun under the bed is ok.

Good idea - £13 off eBay and it's wireless too. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Driveway-Patrol-Infrared-Wireless-Alert-Secure-System-Garage-Motion-Sensor-Alarm-/251390478004?_trksid=p2054897.l5662
