UKBRA 100 Yards Saturday 16th August 2014

Firstly apologies for the delay in getting the results online.

Saturday saw Round 5 of the 2014 UKBRA 100 Yard league at Diggle, and the weather was………… INTERESTING!

So an August weekend should be nice……. No chance it’s Diggle, it blew a gale, was as switchy as hell and was freezing cold.

However despite that we had fun as ever and welcomed some new faces to our midst….

Welcome to Brian Kelly, making a switch from the Rimfire ranks to the Centrefire stage, and I think he enjoyed himself, he certainly shot well and remembered the golden rule that the newbie cant win, but can come second! Some great shooting Brian and you are welcome back anytime.

Also welcome back to Benjamin Sueess from Switzerland, he seems to make a habit of coming up trumps in Sporter when he comes over for his annual holidays, well done Benjamin.

Russell Gall got reacquainted with his gear after the Europeans, proving that absence does make the heart grow fonder as he thrashed us all, shooting 2 groups in the ones in some truly horrible conditions, well done Russell.

OK, onto the scores, here is how it all panned out in the end.

Heavy Varmint

1st – Russell Gall – 0.252” (average of 5 x 5 shot groups)

2nd – Brian Kelly – 0.306”

3rd – Darrell Evans – 0.314”

Small Group – Russell Gall – 0.142”

Sporter Class

1st – Benjamin Sueess – 0.416” (average of 5 x 5 shot groups)

2nd – Stuart Benson – 0.580”

3rd – Jim Marsden – 0.643”

Small Group – Benjamin Sueess – 0.295”

Well done to everyone that shot, certainly some of the worst conditions I have seen in a long time.

As this was the penultimate shoot of the league, the points are now hotting up…..

In Heavy Varmint 1st and 2nd places for the league have been sealed, but there is a good battle taking place for 3rd, with 4 possible contenders, so all to play for folks….

In Sporter, well its certainly not sewn up yet, so roll up folks it’s going to be a showdown at Diggle at the next shoot.

The full league results so far are available by clicking on the link below.

All that goes to say, don’t be shy, turn up for the next shoot at Diggle on Saturday 6th September, it is also the UKBRA AGM after the shoot, so your chance to have your say.

Turn up early, we would like to be ready to shoot for 10.30am to give us plenty of time for the AGM.

Thanks Bruce, very much enjoyed it (perhaps a little less wind next time :D )

Very impressive scores from Russell, to get a couple of targets into the “ones” in those conditions is a match winner for sure.

Centerfire benchrest operates at a slightly more hectic pace than rimfire, don’t know how you find the time to load at the bench between relays, something us rimfire guys don’t need to worry about.

A couple of “rookie” mistakes, especially on the last card (which I’ll say no more about  ). Other than that a very enjoyable day, I’ll be back for more for sure. :)

To anyone that was at the 100yd bench competition last Saturday at Diggle . Or indeed anyone that’s been there since:

I left my cleaning rod on the range, Its a stainless steel rod with a black delrin handle, I believe has the wording “Ivy Rod” marked on it.

If anyone comes across it could they drop me a pm, I’d be happy to arrange collection. It has sentimental value :D
