drum1
Hi guys. Is anyone using a Vortex Viper 6-24x50 PST with either SFP or FFP. I'm considering buying one for my .223, and was wondering which model you would recommend, FFP or SFP. What is your opinions on them, and is it worth spending the extra money on the FFP model. Also is there anything particular to look out for if buying a used scope.
tisme
Hi I've got both. They both track well up to a point, at near full adjustment either way the aim point goes off to the right. I think it the tube inside the scope touching the outer housing. They track fine otherwise just the last and first few clicks. The FFP ret is quite thick compared to the SFP one and can block the view of a small target at 24X. The turrets turn very nice and the zero stop works. I would buy another if I wanted a scope in that price range.
drum1
Thanks for that Tisme. Which model do you like using the best ?. What sort of range are you using them both at. Cheers.
Brummy Mark
Hi, I have a FFP on a .223, as above, tracks well, dials well, have had 1st round hits on gongs at 750+yds easy, yes the reticle is a little large at very long ranges at max, but check the reticle dimensions, the glass is not bad at all, but close to dusk, even wound down to 6x mag, the sight picture gets darker, thats a trade off for the mag range I guess. I also use it under a T20 with green LED for lamping and its fine up to about 8x mag and no problem with identifying rabbit, sheep and fox at general shooting ranges. I have the EBR-1 reticle, crosshair is 0.18MOA and don't find it a problem. http://www.vortexoptics.com/uploads/sub_pst_f_6-24x50_ebr1_moa-t.jpg
drum1
Cheers Mark. You've answered a lot of my questions there. Looks like my mind is made up, just to get the rest of cash saved now. It's a pity there was not a supplier near me so I could have a look through one first, I've never spent this much on a scope before, but I'm sure it will be fine, and with that warranty, you can't go wrong really. tisme
Thanks for that Tisme. Which model do you like using the best ?. What sort of range are you using them both at. Cheers. I like both. The FFP I use on a target rifle so I can measure the misses and adjust very easy. The SFP I use on a foxing rifle where the fox won't give me a second chance if I miss. I've used them to shoot out to 1000 yards. Where about are you, you're welcome to have a look through mine
drum1
Sorry, changed my profile with location now. Thank you for the offer tisme, but I'm in Sunderland, so a bit far away. If you were mainly using it for hunting, with occasional target shooting out to say 600 yds, would you choose FFP or SFP ?.
tisme
SFP if that was my use.
