Bobbo
Hi lads, I'm going to be treating myself to a new .243, can't make my mind up between the two above, which one to you recommend? ATB, Bob.
Wsm
If you want a rifle to shoot straight out of the box go for a Tikka If you want a rifle that you can get endless replacement parts for thus making it nothing like the original rifle you purchased (a bit like Triggers new brush) go for a Remington
gaz6br
Tikka will shoot straight out the box 99.9% of the time, also there's endless things you can do to them as well My tikka t3 only thing standerd is the action everything else has been changed, but that's just me Gaz

dannywayoflife
I had 3 tikkas only sold them to buy a dta. Tikkas are in my opinion the most bang for buck out there. Followed by howa's.
ejg223
I would take the remmy, might need more work to get right but worth it as I prefer the handling. edi
Andrew
Tikka, hands down. Barrels by SAKO: How can you go wrong? I have 4 of them.~Andrew
ejg223
The 223 T3 I had: least accurate new rifle I bought to date, it wasn't bad however only a 1" gun with one or two ammo types after a few years of trying. The safety was worrying as with rough field handling the safety went into fire position on it's own a few times. Fitting Accuracy type mags is more difficult than on a Remmy. Good points are, very good trigger, magazine system feeds well. I just bought another T3, however I'll only use the action. I think Sako or Tikka barrels are over rated. edi
Chris-NZ
You must have been unlucky with that T3 Edi. A m*te has one and it is a real tackdriver straight out of the box with all sorts of fodder he cooks up. I've got both Remingtons and Tikkas (as you know) and they're all much of a muchness accuracy-wise. Guess it shows there are various ways of skinning a cat. Bang for ya buck, Tikkas win at least at our local prices. The worst thing about the cheap SPS Remmies is the stock which needs immed repl't. SPS is an acronym for Sh*tty Plastic Stock. I'd see how the factory T3 barrel shoots first before you discard it. Might pleasantly surprise you
ejg223
Chris, several lads had problems with the 1/8 223 lite, never really bad but several were not really good either. Maybe that was the reason why they are playing with 1/10 twist? I often recommend a T3 to guys new to shooting, out of the box the lite stock is a bit better than a SPS stock, trigger good. Very useable out of the box however maybe 30% more expensive than a SPS. I think Andrew get's T3's at 400-500 USD, well at that price I'd say they are a steal. We pay around 1300-1600USD for the same thing. Then one starts to look a little closer. If the savings on a SPS vs a T3 can closely cover a custom stock one will be way ahead of a T3 as the T3 factory plastic stock is also far from perfect. In my opinion a T3 or Sako barrel is no better than any other hammer forged barrel. Also the cheapest ones. edi
Hatzi
I hear Sako/Tikka use non-steyr hammer forging machinery whereas virtually all others do.
