MrCetrizine
Hi, I'm just getting together the kit to start loading .300 AAC for my impending AR15. I've got hold of a couple of tubs of H110 but it was more difficult than I expected and I've no idea if the supply will suddenly dry up. So, what other powders are good for .300 AAC, ideally to cover both sub and supersonic loads? Also ideally ones that are readily available. Thanks. Laurie
There shouldn't be any major problems with the future supply of H110 as it's US manufactured (St. Marks Powder Co. in Florida) unlike the crisis hit Australian sourced Hodgdon numbers like VarGet. Given its primary role as a full-house load magnum revolver cartridge propellant and secondary role for some small rifle cartridges like the .22 Hornet, H110 demand is likely very small in this country, especially as the small rifle cartridge slot has been pretty well monopolised by Hodgdon LilGun since its introduction. That's likely why you've had trouble finding any. The same problem will probably apply to the likely substitutes with the possible exception of LilGun, which is also an option for some bullet weights with the 300 AAC. See: http://sierrabullets.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/300-aac-blackout.pdf One propellant that isn't mentioned by Sierra but looks suitable and which is available here is Ramshot Enforcer, another ball powder suited to the H110 roles. MrCetrizine
Cheers Laurie, I'll try to get a local RFD to tack me on a tub or two whenever he puts in an order to Edgar Brothers. I wasn't too surprised that it wasn't stocked for .300 AAC use round here as I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to have one here in Lincolnshire given my FLO never having heard of it when I put in my variation but I thought H110 would have had a decent following with the massive amount of lever action users at my local clubs. Not that many levergun shooters use full-house loads. It's a lot more pleasant, and cheaper, and easier to shoot accurately using cast lead bullets and small charges of fast burners with results around 1,000-1,100 fps. MrCetrizine
I thought about that but doesn't it's bulk cause issues with the reduced case size?
John MH
Not in my experience, have you had an opportunity to reload or shoot a .300 Whisper or .300 Blackout?
MrCetrizine
I shot an AAC Honey Badger and a .300 AR in the US last year which is what made me want one. It's taken over 5 months to get my variation back so I'm just about to start reloading in readiness for my AR which I've just ordered from Bradders. John MH
Well I'd take the advice of your chosen Gun Plumber although there's also lots of info on the WWW.
AndyUOC95
In my 300 blackout i use13.1 grains of accurate no.9 with a 147 grain fmj gives me about1600fps, It gives about 1moa but haven't refined the load so could probably do better, not tried any subsonic loads but my Hornady load manual says you can use it with everything from a 110 grain all the way to 220 grain bullets.
