Hi All,

Just thought I'd share last nights adventure with you. Had a phone call off a mate yesterday afternoon to tell me one of his farmers had had 4 chickens killed early yesterday morning, Did I want to go for a look with him? Stupid question! lol

I met up with him at 7 at the farm and we put 2 of the dead chickens out as bait about 100yds down the field from the yard and took our positions in the landrover. It was a long wait but at 9.45 a fox was spotted makeing its way along the other side of a hedge at about 200yds but it wasnt to keen on the light and angled off from the hedge. Ideal as there was no shot if it stayed on course. At about 160yds I stopped it and Craigs .243 did the job. We left it where it was as there were cattle in the field and as I'm sure you all know cattle at night can be fun even though the cattle on this farm tend to be very calm. A little later we went for a drive on the other side of the farm. Craig spotted another fox in a field of long grass and got the shot away at 140yds and we both saw the fox drop. we carried on as there is a bridge to get over the ditch it was accross and Craig went to fetch it. He came running back and said there was another fox about 100yds from the one he had shot 15mins before. my turn to shoot and I used his rifle as I hadn't checked Zero after solvent cleaning my barrel in the afternoon. we drove back and sure enough there was another fox which I promtly shot. Craig went to pick them both up and after much messing about had picked mine but couldn't find his. came back and we checked the fox over and it was the same fox. Craig had taken the shot as the fox was sitting and had hit the neck but not central so only hit skin and muscle but my shot was a broadside through the shoulders. We have never had this happen before and just shows how tough the animals are. Happy farmer today though.

ATB,

Ben.
