Hello lads.

I saw a decent diy windmeter rig a while back but for the life of me can't find it. It had the same windmeter I have, skywatcher explorer 1 mounted on a swivel bracket or something along those lines. It was basic but very effective.

Anyone got any links if they know what I'm on about :)

These guys sell one for the Kestral wind meter, maybe you could adapt it?

Richard Utting Sharpshooting uk uses the kestrel vane with his skywatch. Just pack the holder out with foam or you could make a plastic insert for it.

Hope this helps.

This is a setup i use when shooting off the roof of my truck and have a longer option that can be pushed into the ground via a spike . The advantage of this over the kestral / vane craddle etc is that this always point straight at me no matter which direction the wind is blowing .

I use a windtronic 2 fitted to a fishing rod rest with standard camera fixing which I think are 1/4 unf ?
The fixing to the roof bars was using a clulite handle , pivet ball bolted to a standard clamp . I use a cheap monopod with a ground spike from sporting services for using in grass and the vane is designed to be used on small sailing boats . ( Amazon sell them ) tent poles that connect together work also .
I've never understood why Kestrel have not addressed the issue of a unidirectional meter as by the time you've stood up in clean air taken a reading then got back down behind the rifle , dialled in and ready to take a shot ....... The wind has changed !
Kestrel then bought out a cradle that had a wind vane attached that held the meter which only works if the wind is coming from behind you as from any other direction you can't read the screen , brilliant Kestrel !

 Greg, you've hit the nail on the head; the kestrel 'turning windmeter' weather vane is a crazy solution.
