Avon Skin So Soft original bluey-green label.

Smidge is good too but found the SSS worked just great

then sprayed Smidge on hat etc.

+1 for Avon. It's the dry oil body spray and works a treat. No lippy involved (well maybe on Saturdays)

Cheers guys, the DEET works but I get dermititis (if thats how you spell it ??) the rash being worse than the actual mozzi bites.spent three weeks in russia where they used a kind of natursl soap !! It worked a treat as the mozzis there are absolutley horrific !!

Ive been using SSS with the Picaridin additive to guard against ticks as well as mozzies, horse flies etc ....... it works. Tested this season on a particularly tickky piece of ground in Somerset where I always used to pick up half a dozen ticks per outing. This year, not a one! Recommended.

The Jungle Formula 'natural' version isn't too bad. It's based on lemon eucalyptus. This, SSS and the other non-DEET repellants work in the same way, by masking your scent to a degree. But they don't last very long. DEET is the only chemical which is scientifically proven to act as a proper repellant, especially if you get it in a 100% concentration. That is, as long as your skin can take it!

Trouble is, it's also a proven carcinogen.

Anyone got anything that works against horseflies?

Plagued by them at the moment; SSS doesn't seem to have any effect (just about to google the picardin additive mentioned).

Not much use to the OP, but Jungle Formula Maximum 50% DEET is the only thing I've found that works against horse/deer flies (& ticks) on the moors down here. I've not had one bite all week, but without it there can be 10+ on you at any one time! It may be bad for you, but without it I'd probably die of blood loss and Lymes long before cancer gets me...

Supposedly eating lots of marmite secretes something into the skin . An ex forces gent was telling me he and a number of others were using it to good effect and only the ones who didn't like marmite got bitten . I've never had the confidence to try it on its own always use Autan and find it works very well but maybe one day I'll try it !

Go to your local agricultural store and buy a tub of "udder mint", if your not aware of it, it's used by dairy farmers in cases of mastitis.

Rub this onto your arms/exposed skin - but not intimate parts, on purpose or accident (know you Wiltshire boys are an oddity!)

It will sweat off, so on hot days needs to be re- applied. Can also be effective against ticks.
