Hi

I don't post too often so I thought I will share this with you folks

I hunt with Blaser since day one. I don't know if you guys know but factory produces 4 ring heights the last exclusively for LRS however Alan Rhone and Open seasons mainly import one height and most blaser owner don't even know there is a choice !

Blaser don't publish it on their corporate website or brochures !

I shoot a lot of clays and good cheek contact is second nature to me

I cannot get use to light cheek pressure

I manage to convince a gunsmith LADBROKE AND LANGTON near St Albans Who looks after all my competition shotgun requirements to lower the rings for me

They have gone even further and made a jig so this can be done accurately and easily

Here is the first finished product

It's cheap and transforms the whole setup

nice looking setup there buddy, but why not just add more spacers to the stock or is there a particular reason for milling the mounts

Traditionally, the idea was to mount the scope as close to the barrel as possible. As I look at photos of set-ups, I see the scopes mounting ever higher. I think it's an excellent thing for a stalking/hunting set-up to get the scope down low and for the set-up to come up to the shoulder without any pause for thought. Straight bolt handles are a big part of the problem and obviously the Blaser doesn't have this issue at all. I am surprised there aren't folk out there offering custom bolt work to address issues like this. What I do see happening is the design of the butt of a rifle being flexed to accommodate high mounting scopes as in the attached thumbhole I shoot.

My Ackley has a much more traditional look.

Having owned 2 x R93s and one Tac 2 in the past, the K95 is the only Blaser I would own now - wish they did a basic/offroad version.

Love the look of that set-up.

Great idea on the rings - can't bear having a scope up in the air like an M16 carrying handle.

That has the look of a very 'fast' handling rifle!

Can see your logic of carrying over your shotgun technique into the rifle.

Very neat looking, any chance of a photo of the rifle assembled for a feel of proportion?

Hi terry

This is my stalking on foot mode

This is my cull mode

It can be swapped over within 30 seconds without loss of alignment

I have done some surgery to the stock which of course cannot be seen but it balances just where I want it

I am talking it to sweeden in November for running whitetails !

This a fox taken running from a pen with a pheasant in its mouth

I was on a highseat with the game keeper

Cheers

The suppressor might be practical but it looks f'ugly on the rifle :)

Again, that looks a 'fast' set up!

  • 1 year later...

not Blaser related but as years gone on & objective lenses got bigger but stock design not really "kept up" ( apart form adjustable stocks obviously) or taken this into consideration.

I always felt I was holding some weight back of the stock rather than really getting "on it" & decent cheek wield .....became even more apparent when I bought my drone pro..... total mare! great unit but not confident in a shot as un comfortable .

buggered bout with pipe lagging and duct tape to experiment.... got extremely comfortable then decide trying to figure out what to do to me set ups

decide on a karsten kydex cheek piece for both rifles as most convenient option for me...... ( left handed long action & an long obsolete lef thanded short action rifle)

as would have been a mare getting new stocks other than custom made

im chuffed to bits ....not the most elegant of solutions but practical

I believe big problem with shotguns now....premier guns told me that more than 40% of new shotguns they sell come back or are requested with adjustable stocks as comb height not high enough for lot of folk

I had to do similar to my swarovski mounts about a year ago. I took about 2.5 millimetres of the bottom of them as the scope was too high. I had trouble with my swarovski 6-30 x 50 z6i. When it was zeroed at 100 it only left 15 clicks of wind age to the left then it ran out of adjustment. When I was doing the trim job on the bottom of them I took the mount off and machined the back part of the mount so I could adjust the back ring. I did this by slotting out the recess for the screw underneath which holds the rear ring on. It means I can set the scope to the middle of the adjustment then fire a shot at 100 yards. Pull the bolt back and loosen the screw from underneath and move it till it lines up. I do this and it means I have full adjustment both ways because I can adjust the rear ring to suit to suit my zero. I used a normal cheese head 3mm Allen head screw which the bolt skims by about 0.5 mm when closing. This will give about enough wind age for a 15 mph 90 degree wind at 670 yards. More than enough for my 223.
