A short biography, nothing personal just shooting. I'm just interested to know that you know more about this than just being good with a camera. eg are you a competition winner? an olympic shot? why do you think your qualified to offer advice? Why should we listen to your opinion? I said it wopuld look bad in print! I think the videos look great, but I'd really like to know that I'm listening to a bona fide expert rather than any other bloke who's bought a camera and is good at video production for youtube. No. Not interested in blowing my own horn, I'm trying to be about the subject not the ego. I'm holding open a toolbox and the results you get will speak for themselves. Use whatever tool you like and assimilate as fits you best. On some subjects there are several ways to get the job done, on other subject there are "best practices". I have no interest in elevating myself. Danpd, I know what you're saying but barrels are "limited comsumption goods" to me. Much like bullets I eventually run out of them so have another five 6,5x284 barrels on order to be delivered next year. Seeing you're profession you should encourage such behaviour in your clients. The worst I've ever done is set a piece of electricians tape on fire. At first I had no duracoat on the barrels and put a coloured electrician tape around the barrels so not to mix them up. Anyway, shot the running moose target a lot in rapid succession. Started to smell funny, but thought I could get off a few more rounds - turns out I had melted the rear plastic barrel bushing on my moderator and the electrician tape gave off smoke... That was the 6,5x55 barrel, it still shoots but I expect some premature wear on that one. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am not surprised he doesn't feel the need to fill out a CV on a forum - sometimes actions do speak louder than words. Good to see you pushing the envelope on UKV, and showing what works for you - other members will just have to be adult and decide for themselves if they listen or not. Why not try some of the advice and if it works for you go with it? That way you can then make your own judgement call on the advice as given. You stated to "push with the toes" into the bipod. Do you advocate pushing while you're shooting, or to push your whole body forward to load the bipod with forward pressure, and then to have the whole body relaxed behind the rifle before taking a shot? Referencing the part of your video showing mirage through the scope. I'll make a shameless plug for our line of suppressor covers that we produce to mitigate exactly what is shown in your video. Also, a new chronograph that is on the market here in the US is a unit called Magnetospeed. http://www.magnetospeed.com/ They are very easy to set up and use. The unit can be used in pitch dark if desired so there are very few missed shots due to low light, rain, etc. There is a company in the UK that I believe has the dealership rights. Either way works fine, I prefer push then relax if the terrain permits. Easier to be consistent. You can do the same with your hips but you might fidget around a little as you don't have the same precise control. Angle and clothes often cause a little "slippage" were I have to keep pressure with the toes (typically steep terrain where I slip back). I've tried moderator covers, but eventually the heat comes through that as well and then the moderator takes for-ev-er to cool down. I'm afraid I don't exactly shoot my moderators per manufacturers recommendation, I usually just turn scope power down to see less mirage. This practice causes excessive wear on the moderator. (I've melted the barrel bushing on my Maxim during a moving target session). A couple of friends have the magnetospeed, they seem very happy with them. Good, you're sorted Rob. I've eaten away a fair bit of front metal simply by banging it into stuff. Just doesn't work on my light rifle due volume. I wouldn't mind having one for my 338 if it could double as a carry holster with a clipon function for my backpack. Found the choice of rifle a bit different (srange?) but stepping back, if you are using that many barrels then the ability to swap them out yourself explains it. Ref.
