I'm looking for a good load for my 30-06. I have a preference for 150gr bullets but am open mided to manufacturer. I have N540, N150 and H380 which are all calssed as suitable powders. Anyone got any pet loads they are happy to share?

I use 56grains of N160 over a 165 grain sierra Game King, this is loaded to the max AOL. I will be honest its the only load i have ever worked up for this and it shot so did not further load development as its just a stalking rifle so was happy with the 3/4 of an inch group.

I had put up a previous thread but cant seem to find it, think its to old for the search engine.

I just finished testing some powders with 165gr Nosler Accubonds for longrange hunting load in 3006 I had tested and worked up to max loads in all powders some where warm. I prefer the higher BC of the 165gr over the 150gr and find the Noslers to be very accurate and give good results on large game.bears moose & white tails

Rifle Rem 700 22"barrel,Bedded,trigger 1 lb

Scope NF

Brass WW ( preped)

Primers CCI Benchrest.\

Hope this may be of help to you I chose in the end another powder I had tested RL 17 at max gave me 5 shots in 2" at 300y speed was 2820fps Superformance was very good also with good speed but I found it was quite dirty powder.

hope this might be of help to you.

Check out http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.co.uk for 30'06 loads which should be fairly convertible to hunting bullets, especially the article Cartridges: Accuracy Secrets of the 30'06 part 2 from May 2012. They aren't my loads but the author is a respected target shooter in the USA.

Another US sage, John Barsness goes with 53 to 58 grains of Ramshot Big Game with 150 grain bullets, and max. 59 grains of IMR4350 or H4350SC with 165 grain bullets for 2900fps.

I am using 56.5 grains of H-4350 with Hornady 165 grain SST's as a "universal" load for my 30-06's. I small base FL resize the cases, trim and load identically. These work in rifles from my 03 Springfields to my Browning BAR. All will shoot at or under MOA with this load. One load, seven rifles: Makes life simple! Interestingly, this same identical load works very well in two rifles that belong to friends as well, and they have adopted it for their own general use.~Andrew

Dont discount the 125 gn bullets, especially on things that can absorb a bit of energy, put things down pretty quickly. A friend shoots them at 3400fps, put that in a ballistic calc.
