cooperman223
I got a phone call from the gamekeeper on the estate where i have my stalking, he told me he had seen a young roe hobling about, it looked lame on its front leg, So i spent three eveninings looking in the area where it hed been seen, no luck, all i saw was a doe with twins, all looked healthy for the time being anyway, but feeding in 15k worth of plantation they will have to be removed soon. I decided a morning stalk before work might be worth a look, it proved to be the right decission, i saw it fairly soon into the stalk, definatly the one i was looking for, so it was shot, This is why it was lame, Everything else about the animal was normal all the lymph nodes were ok, (thanks madmanx) liver/kidneys/heart/mouth, also fine. For a yearling it was right for weight at 12kilos, it was shot in an area of clear fell, not anywhere near boggy ground, i have seen this before but never as bad as this one. JohnGalway
Nasty. I've seen similar in sheep at times, but it usually appears in those that have been on soft bedding for a long time or ones that have developed scald/footrot. Don't know if deer can get the latter. njc110381
Wow, that looks really uncomfortable. Well done for getting it in the end. I've never seen anything like that before, thanks for posting the pictures. EDIT... Found a link with a lot of details on this. I know the guy giving the info personally, he's one of the smartes guys I know where Deer are concerned! I hope a link to another forum is OK due to the information it provides?... http://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/foru...t=upturned+hoof
Zaitsev
Can only support the foregoing post. Morena (off the stalking directory) is one of those guys that you could listen to for hours. Met him at the Midland and was blown away by his knowledge. The aladdin slipper symptoms I have also seen on a doe who had her back leg broken in a road accident. The leg healed two inches short and the hoof grew down as a result.
